Recently, Jiangsu Okey Electric Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Okey Electric") has achieved a notable success in the African power engineering sector. Leveraging its outstanding technical R&D capabilities and rigorous manufacturing processes, the company has completed the production and delivery of a complete high-voltage busbar system—a critical power transmission and distribution equipment set for the captive power plant of a large sugar factory in Nigeria. With a total length approaching 100 meters, these high-voltage busbars, operating at a voltage level of 11kV, will inject robust energy into local industrial development.
This project involved not only a wide variety of equipment and high voltage levels but also extremely demanding requirements for thermal stability and insulation performance. The product matrix provided by Okey Electric includes: 11kV/3000A/3P high-voltage enclosed busbars, 11kV/630A/3P high-voltage busbars, and 11kV/630A/1P single-phase high-voltage busbars. From high-current main transmission to low-current branch distribution, this system fully covers the energy transmission needs of the sugar factory.
In power transmission systems, busbar trunking systems are known as the "aorta" of a power plant. Addressing the characteristics of Nigeria’s local power grid—significant fluctuations and a hot, humid environment—Okey Electric adopted several advanced technologies for this project:
High-Current Heat Dissipation Technology (3000A/3P): To meet the transmission demand of a rated current up to 3000A, we used optimized conductor cross-section design and fully low-magnetic aluminum alloy enclosures, combined with an intelligent heat dissipation structure. This effectively reduces skin effect and eddy current losses, ensuring that temperature rise under full-load operation complies with International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards.
High Insulation Level Design (11kV): The dielectric strength requirements for insulating materials in high-voltage enclosed busbars are stringent. This project employed high-quality epoxy resin cast insulators and vulcanization treatment technology, effectively resisting high-voltage electric field shocks, eliminating the risk of phase-to-phase short circuits, and ensuring the safety of power plant operators and equipment.
Customized Connection Solution: During the CT (current transformer) installation and busbar section splicing stages, double-locking anti-vibration fasteners were used to ensure structural stability of the busbars after long-distance transportation and complex on-site construction.
The success of this Nigerian sugar factory project is no accident. Earlier, Okey Electric had already successfully served a major well-known cement enterprise in Nigeria. In this project, Okey Electric strictly adhered to the concept of "modular design + precision manufacturing." What we provided to the sugar factory was not just individual pieces of equipment but a complete "turnkey" power transmission and distribution solution. This included secondary detailed design based on drawings, precision processing and bending of busbars, anti-corrosion coating treatment, and full-process withstand voltage testing before factory shipment.
